An Atchison woman will serve 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to an amended count of misdemeanor theft and having her probation revoked.
Sacandra Casiano made the plea Monday in Atchison County District Court.
The sentence came after County Attorney Gerald Kuckleman recommended Casiano serve a prison sentence on the probation revocation on a previous theft case.
But, County Judge Martin Asher ordered a jail sanction after Casiano addressed the court with a letter that cited her willingness to get counseling for her “addiction to taking things.”
She was arrested on February 5th for taking several items from Wal-Mart.
A warrant was issued on February 24th after she failed to appear for a court appearance.
Casiano was picked up on that warrant on May 13th.
She has remained in Atchison County Jail since.
