The Nemaha Natural Resources Board approved two well permit applications, and denied a third application, during the board’s May meeting.
Based on a recommendation from the Programs and Projects Committee, the full board approved permits for NTLT Talcott Farms southwest of Sterling and Larry Eckert southwest of St. Mary to install irrigation wells.
The board denied a permit for Mike and Gary Bierman to install a well just northwest of the Village of Shubert. The board turned down the request for a couple reasons. The location of the proposed well would have been within a one mile radius of the Village of Shubert’s municipal wells, and it also appeared that more than one well would be required to achieve the pumping rate needed by the Bierman’s to irrigate their 76 acres.
The NRD Board had postponed action on the Bierman’s application last month while the board sought input from the Village of Shubert regarding the potential impact to their municipal wells.
