A proposal to install artificial turf at the football field will be the focus of discussion at a special meeting of the Johnson-Brock School Board this evening. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Superintendent’s office.
Superintendent Jeff Koehler says it will be an informational meeting. (play audio :19)
The Johnson-Brock School Board is considering a proposal to have Jim Gerking of Entire Recycling install artificial turf, made of recycled tires, on the football field to replace the current grass field, which Koehler says is unsafe.
Koehler says Gerking and Vernon Gerdes, who are spearheading the project, will be at the meeting, and anyone from the general public is invited to come to the meeting if they want to volunteer to help with the project or find out more information. He says the feedback from the public has all been positive so far. (play audio :24)
The school district will get a $63,000 grant from the state Department of Environmental Quality for using recycled tires, and the Johsnon-Brock School District will match that. Koehler estimates the school district needs to raise an additional $30,000 – in cash or in-kind contributions – to complete funding for the turf field.
Koehler says the board will not make a decision on proceeding with the project at today’s meeting, which begins at 7:00 p.m.
