04/09/2012

A 25 year old Leavenworth man will serve two years in prison on an intent to distribute marijuana charge.

Christopher Haskell was given the sentence Monday on the level three drug felony charge due to his prior history.

He will have two year probation sentence upon his release.

He was arrested after being a passenger in a high speed police pursuit in the city limits of Atchison on February 22nd after being caught setting up a drug deal at a house near Atchison Middle School.

The chase eventually ended when the driver of the vehicle slammed on the brakes, causing an Atchison Police cruiser to slam its rear bumper into the back of the truck.

Haskell was also ordered to pay 47 hundred 30 dollars to the city for the cruiser.

The driver is believed to be Caleb Jones.

Jones also faces a distribution charge for his alleged involvement, as well as interference and flee and eluding a law enforcement officer, and six traffic offenses for allegedly leading police on the chase.

He has a status conference scheduled for April 13th and is out on 10 thousand dollars bond.

 Jones has no prior convictions.
