Kansas State Wildcats will be in search of a new head basketball coach, as Frank Martin is heading to the Southeastern Conference to become the next head coach at the University of South Carolina. Martin reportedly has agreed upon a six-year deal that will pay him $12 million over the duration of the contract ($2 million a year).
Martin confirmed to ESPN last night after meeting with South Carolina trustees yesterday about their coaching position, that he would be accepting the offer and become the next head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks. A press conference is slated from today to introduce, Martin as the next head coach.
He will be taking over for Darrin Horn, who was fired after a 10-21 season and a 2-14 last place finish in the SEC, this year. Horn went 60-63 over the course of his four seasons at the helm for South Carolina.
In his time at Kansas State, Martin complied a coaching record of 117-54 and 50-32 in Big 12 conference play in his five seasons at the helm. Four of the five seasons, Martin lead the Wildcats to berth's in the NCAA tournament, making it all the way to the Elite Eight in 2010.
