Coming off the bench for the first time in his college career, Highland Community College sophomore guard De’Andre Upchurch (Flint, MI) surpassed the all-time HCC scoring mark of 1,400 points set last year by Jarmar Gulley.
Upchurch scored a game-high 23 points, including knocking down four 3-point shots, in the Scotties second half rally victory over the Cowley Tigers by the final of 78-65. Upchurch currently has 1,414 points during his career at Highland. It also marked the first time since head coach Jerre Cole took over that the Scotties were able to top the Tigers, despite some hard-fought contests the past three years.
Sophomores Roderick Camphor (Baltimore, MD) and Jarvis Benard (Nome, TX) scored 16 and 11 points respectively.
The Scotties, 15-12 overall and 8-7 in Jayhawk Eastern Conference play, next travel to Neosho County on Saturday, February 26. Tip-off is at 8:00 p.m.
