Wilson says speeds reached an undetermined amount over the speed limit while in town, and speed in excess of 70 miles an hour just on the outer edge of town.

The driver of the vehicle, Caleb Jones, was booked into Atchison County Jail on the felony charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer and aggravated battery for allegedly putting his passenger in a threat of danger.

The passenger, Christopher Haskell, was booked on the charge of felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

He also had a Platte County warrant out for failure to appear.

Wilson says a patrol car had minor damage in the course of the chase, but no injuries occurred to the officer or the passengers.

Wilson says the officer turned his vehicle sideways to avoid a head-on collision with the rear bumper of the vehicle after Jones slammed on the breaks at the end of the pursuit.

He also says evidence pertaining to the investigation was thrown out of the vehicle at some point of the chase was later recovered.

The chase was assisted by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Atchison County Sheriff’s Department.

Jones and Haskell remain in Atchison County Jail and await bond and formal charges.
