The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded nearly $9.9 million to public housing authorities in Kansas—including those in the local area--that will be used make major large-scale improvements to their public housing units.
The Atchison Housing Authority will receive $205,340; Horton Housing Authority, $61,557; Seneca Housing Authority, $60,793; Holton Housing Authority, $55,006; Valley Falls Housing Authority, $19,701; Blue Rapids Housing Authority, $17,352; and Sabetha Housing Authority, $15,209.
The grants are provided through HUD’s Capital Fund Program, which provides annual funding to all public housing authorities to build, repair, renovate and/or modernize the public housing in their communities.
The funding can be used to make large-scale improvements such as new roofs and to make energy-efficient upgrades to replace old plumbing and electrical systems.
