The STEP Foundation Board of Directors has announced recipients for the first-round of 2020 grants. The grants are awarded for charitable purposes to enhance and improve the quality of life for the residents of Nemaha County. Requests totaled $10,400 for this round of grants, and the STEP Foundation awarded $4,000.
Centralia Schools will be receiving an award of $4,000 from the Glen J. Meyer Advisory Fund to replace the playground border and mulch with an 8-inch rubber border and rubber mulch. Larry Glatczak, principal, shared in the grant application that “the Centralia Schools playground has been deteriorating for some time now. The current playground equipment was installed in 1998, and the school has added different equipment throughout the years. The plastic pipe border around the playground is worn and has passed its useful life. Also, the rubber mulch inside the playground is deteriorating and washing away. When completed, the playground will be safer as the mulch will stay within the playground and around the equipment. By adding the border, the mulch will stay inside the perimeter of the playground and make the appearance much more attractive and safer for kids to play on.”
Grants are awarded twice a year through the STEP Foundation, with the next deadline being July 15, 2020. For current applications and more information, visit www.nemahastep.org or contact Tory Jost at 785-294-0312. For the latest updates, like and follow STEP on Facebook.
