(KNZA)--Two firms will provide on-call engineering services for the city of Hiawatha.
Following a lengthy discussion Monday evening, the Hiawatha City Commission voted 4-1 to direct that the city administrator and city attorney to draft three-year contracts with B-G Consultants and Olsson Associates to provide the services.
The city has been soliciting bids for engineering services for each project.
In casting the lone no vote, Commissioner Bill Collins said he didn’t feel there was a need to make a change.
However, Mayor Steffen Shamburg and the other Commissioners said they believe having an engineering firm the city can call for small projects would be more efficient.
City Administrator Mike Nichols said he sees benefits to having an on-call firm.
The Commission interviewed three engineering firms at their September 19th meeting.
