(KAIR)--Concrete improvements along Atchison's North 2nd Street will bring numerous enhancements, along with some temporary street closures.
The project, given final approval Monday by the Atchison City Commission, is outlined in a news release issued by Justin Pregont, the Director of Public Works and Utilities for the City of Atchison.
Bottorff Construction is planning to begin work this week, which will include the replacement of the brick street intersections at 2nd and Laramie, 2nd and Kearney, and 2nd and Parallel. Additionally, wheelchair ramps will be installed at 2nd and Kansas.
The project also means the construction of new sidewalks, which will allow a full connection to the Atchison Community Health Clinic.
Additionally, the replacement of curbs will happen as part of the effort, and will include the south side of Division Street, between 7th Street and 9th Street.
Some temporary street closures are expected during the duration of the project, which is expected to be completed by early to mid-November.
The Atchison City Commission approved the contract with Bottorff on September 19.
