Summer Treatment Now Available for Emerald Ash Borer
08/02/2016

Emerald Ash Borer can now be treated through the summer with ArborSystems Wedgle Direct-Inject Tree Injection System and Boxer Insecticide-Miticide for two-year control.

“Unlike other treatment methods that have to be done in the spring, Boxer Insecticide used with the Wedgle can be applied until six weeks before the first frost,” said Chip Doolittle, president of ArborSystems in Omaha, NE. “Trunk injections using our no drilling method and advanced technology for tree treatment are effective anytime the tree is actively growing so the product is translocated with the sap.”

The Wedgle is a no-drill tree treatment system -- an easy, fast and tree-friendly way to treat almost any tree in five minutes or less. It is the only tree trunk injection application method that does not require a drilled hole and, therefore, no drilling damage to the tree. Drilling of large holes on a yearly or semi-yearly basis have proven to be harmful to the tree.

Boxer Insecticide-Miticide, for application by arborists, urban foresters and tree care professionals, is available in 120 ml and 1000 ml Quick-Connect Chemical Packs. It is for the control of mature and immature insect and mite pests of deciduous and coniferous trees and palm trees including those growing in residential and commercial landscapes, parks, plantations, seed orchards and forested sites in private, municipal, state, tribal and national areas. Boxer contains the active ingredient Emamectin Benzoate and is formulated to translocate in the tree’s vascular system when injected. It must be placed into active sapwood and will actively control pests for up to two years.

Pests controlled by Boxer include Ambrosia Beetles, Aphid, Bagworm, Clearwing Borers (such as Ash and Sequoia Pine Pitch Tube Moth), Cone Beetle (Conopthora spp.), Conifer Mites, Cynipid Gall Wasp, Fall Webworm, Flatheaded Borers (such as adult and larvae of Bronze Birch Borer, Emerald Ash Borer and Two-lined Chestnut Borer), Gypsy Moth, Honeylocust Plant Bug,  Leafminers (such as Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera), Mimosa Webworm, Oak Worm, Pine Cone Seed Bug (suppression of Leptoglossus and Tetyra spp. in the year of treatment), Pine Coneworm (Dioryctria spp.), Pine Needle Scale, Pinewood Nematode, Red Palm Mite, Roundheaded Borers (excluding Asian Longhorn Beetles), Sawfly (such as Elm, Pine), Tent Caterpillars (such as Eastern, Forest, Pacific and Western), Tussock Moth, Western Spruce Budworm and Winter Moth.

ArborSystems chemicals are used with their Direct-Inject Tree Injection System as an injection into the flare or base of the tree to ensure even distribution through the tree’s vascular system. It places the chemical deep into the active areas where it can be easily absorbed. Chemicals are delivered fast and effectively at a known dose rate with virtually no environmental exposure associated with foliage spray, soil injection or drenching. Also there is no mixing in the field, waiting for uptake of chemicals, guarding during draining process, need for power, pumps or return trips by applicators.

“Tree trunk injections are a tree-friendly way to treat trees and plants by tree, turf and ornamental specialists and are people friendly too,” said Doolittle. “Children and pets are not exposed to chemical spray or open chemical containers and there is no need to cover outdoor toys, play equipment, pools, furniture or vehicles.”

ArborSystems’ chemical product line for pests, diseases and tree health includes Pointer Insecticide that treats Emerald Ash Borer, Hemlock Wooly Adelgids, White Flies, aphids and beetles and Greyhound Insecticides which controls beetles, caterpillars, mites and nematodes (prevents Pine Wilt disease). Their systemic fungicide products include Shepherd Fungicide that treats Anthracnose, Diplodia Tip Blight, Dutch Elm disease, Crabapple disease, Oak Wilt disease and other conifer and leaf diseases and Whippet Fungicide that controls phytophthora spp. and Pythium diseases, Sudden Oak Death and Beech Decline. Their antibiotic line includes Terrier Antibiotic that treats Bacterial Leaf Scorch in Elm, Oak, Sycamore, Oleander and Sweet Gum trees; Fire Blight in Mountain Ash trees; Ash Yellows in Ash trees; and Phloem Necrosis in Elm trees (also called Elm Yellow) and Springer Antibiotic for seasonal suppression of lethal yellow disease in palms. Their plant growth regulator products consist of Mastiff which reduces tree growth up to 70% over three years including stem elongation and wood formation and Pinscher used on ornamental trees to reduce flowering and fruit/seeds production decreasing cleanup and turf maintenance problems without comprising tree health. Their micronutrients product line improves tree health, promotes leaf growth and relieves symptoms of iron chlorosis, manganese deficiency and drought and transplant stress. ArborSystems has eight Quick-Connect Injection Tips for treating all types of trees including hardwoods, conifers and palms.
