(KMZA)-- A local Kansas Department of Transportation official is retiring after 38 years of service.
Gale Hunninghake started with KDOT in 1978 as an equipment operator at Seneca. Over the years he worked his way up through KDOT’s equipment operator level progression program and into a maintenance supervisory position. He has served as the Seneca Subarea Supervisor since June 14, 1998.
In his current position, Hunninghake oversees all maintenance activities and staff covering all of Nemaha County and a portion of Marshall County in the northeast Kansas region.
One of the things Hunninghake says he will miss most is the friendships he has developed over the years with so many wonderful people that he has worked with in his KDOT family.
After retirement, Hunninghake says he plans to spend time with his grandchildren, work on his family farm, play golf, fish, hunt and vacation a lot more.
He and his wife, Mary Jane, live in Seneca and have three children.
