(KLZA)-- On a 3-1 vote the Pawnee City Council approved Mayor Deb Klein’s appointment of Evan Wickersham with JEO Consulting as the City Street Engineer for another year.
Councilman John Dahlgren cast the nay vote, noting his displeasure with the company. Wickersham will come to Pawnee City to meet with Dahlgren to discuss his issues.
In other business Paul Marsolek with Black Hills Energy met with the Council to discuss the replacement of unprotected gas lines within the city limits.
The sub-contractor hired by Black Hills left open holes, including a downtown alley. City Clerk Tammy Stephens said Marsolek promised to make amends for the way this part of the job was handled, including a promise to take care of any concrete problems that come up in the next couple of years. Black Hills Energy will also pay for televising a section of sewer line that was bored over.
Around 4,000 feet of gas lines have been replaced at a cost of $117,000. There is still work to do to complete the gas line replacement project. There is a 3-year plan in place to continue the gas line replacement. Marsolek promised the next phases will be handled better.
The Council did accept the letter of retirement from City crew member Stephen Henninger. He has worked for the City of Pawnee city for nearly 43 years.
An update was also given on the cleanup effort from a downtown fire last fall that destroyed two buildings. The cleanup effort continues and the building owner continues to negotiate a settlement with his insurance company.
An executive session was held to discuss in investigative procedure regarding allegations of criminal misconduct. No action was taken following the closed session.
