(LINCOLN)-- You just might get a yellow postcard in the mail from Governor Pete Ricketts and Speaker of the Legislature Galen Hadley.
It will tell you how much of a property tax break you received.
Governor Ricketts pushed for a big increase in the money devoted to the Property Tax Credit Relief Fund, boosting it to over 400-Million dollars in the two-year state budget. Ricketts, though, says many Nebraskans he has talked with are unaware about the tax break.
Ricketts said with property tax relief the number one issue on the minds of Nebraskan’s, he felt it important to let state residents know what his administration and the Legislature has already done for them.
Hadley of Kearney says though the legislature increase the money devoted to the Property Tax Credit Relief Fund, it appears few have really noticed. And Hadley says the legislature isn't done trying to create more property tax relief.
The Nebraska Department of Revenue will be sending out 700-Thousand tax relief notices at a cost of 274-Thousand dollars.
