(KNZA)--The Doniphan County Commission has filled another road foreman vacancy.
The Commission this week approved the hiring of Steve Gerdes, of Elwood, to serve as third district road foreman and county mechanic.
Gerdes is to begin work January 11th at an annual salary of $40,000 plus benefits.
County Clerk Peggy Franken says Gerdes currently works as a mechanic at a business in St. Joseph.
The position of 1st district road foreman still remains vacant.
Danny Adkins was hired in October as the new 2nd district road foreman, returning to his previous position.
In other action, bids were presented for the painting of about 400 feet of guttering, downspouts and fascia on the courthouse building.
The Commission voted to accepted the low bid submitted by National Painting and Coatings Inc., of St. Joseph, for nearly 52-hundred dollars, contingent upon all equipment and supplies being furnished by the company.
It was among two bids received. GA Thompson Painting Contractor Inc. had submitted a bid for more than $11,000.
