(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission has agreed to take steps to address safety concerns at the east entrance to the NEK-CAP office southwest of Hiawatha.
Organization representative Jim Bartley met with the Commission Monday to request that the county install a pair of signs warning motorists of vehicles entering and exiting the roadway from the office's location at 1260 220th Road. He also requested a speed limit reduction on a stretch of road in the area.
With vehicles coming over the crest of a hill, Bartley says there have been several near misses with vehicles entering and exiting NEK-CAP.
He estimated 75 to 100 vehicles enter and exit their location a day. In addition, Bartley said school buses come and go from NEK-CAP three times a day.
The Commission agreed to purchase and install a pair of signs reading “ Caution Vehicles Entering and Exiting Roadway.” In addition, the Commission agreed to look into a speed limit reduction in the area.
