(KAIR)--Rates will rise 5-percent for City of Atchison water customers, following approval granted to the hike during yesterday's City Commission meeting.
The unanimous Commission approval followed a presentation on the issue, provided by City Finance Director Becky Anderson.
Based on City Staff estimates, the 5-percent increase will mean a total monthly bill for the average customer with full utility services of $80.75 a month indicating an increas of $3.42. The pricetag would be lower for those who use less water, as well as those qualifying for low income senior rates.
The increase is made necessary by the city's cost of operations, including federally mandated combined sewer overflow system upgrades.
Commissioners were presented both the 5-percent and a 4-percent increase as options for approval.
The 5-percent increase goes into effect next year.
