(KNZA)--Doniphan County Commissioners received an update this week on a fiber optic cable project in the county.
Commissioner Timothy Collins updated the Commission on a meeting held with representatives of the Zayo Group, which is installing fiber optic cable along a 13-mile route through the western and southern portion of the county.
Collins said it was agreed the fiber optic cable would be installed in the county rights-of-way by way of trenching, except where boring is necessary due to the terrain, road crossings and residential properties.
Originally the cable was to have been installed in the center of the county roadway. However, due to the amount of damage it would cause to the roads it was agreed placement of the line was best in the county rights-of-way.
Doniphan County will not approve restoration to the county roadways by the Zayo Group until after the spring freeze and thaw in 2016.
The company will submit final project plans showing the location of the fiber optic cable once the entire project is complete.
