(KAIR)--A former Atchison County Commissioner has died.
Susan “Susie” Pickman was 74-years-old when she died Tuesday at her Atchison home.
According to her obituary from the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Pickman served as County Commissioner from 1988 until 1996, serving as Commission Chair for five of her eight years in office. During her time of serving on the commission, she helped oversee the construction of a new county landfill and the installation of enhanced 911 for the county. That service, commonly known as E911, allows the location of wireless phone users calling the emergency number to be provided to local emergency services.
Pickman also served on the board for the Atchison Chamber of Commerce, the Northeast Kansas County Health Board, and Project Concern.
She was also widely known through the local area as the one time news director for Atchison's KAIR Radio.
Among her numerous survivors are her husband, Bud, four sons, and two daughters.
Funeral Services for Pickman will be Saturday morning at 10:30 at Atchison's Saint Benedict’s Catholic Church.
