Prepare Winter Weather Kits for Vehicles
11/23/2015

(NRN)-- With winter arriving, motorists are encouraged to take a few precautions, pronto. An emergency kit is a must for your vehicle's trunk, so you're prepared for the unexpected. Ann Avery, the Nebraska spokeswoman for State Farm Insurance, says several staples should be in everyone's vehicle, before the winter winds start whipping.

Emergency kits should include: jumper cables, blankets, warm clothes and a cell phone charger, an ice scraper, and be sure to check to make sure your spare tire is inflated and that your jack and all the proper tire-changing tools are in place.

It is also a good idea to have survival items packed including:

A first aid kit, water, food that won’t expire and medications you need.

If there's a teenage driver under your roof, you should talk to them about the importance of that kit.

Other helpful items to have handy include: road salt or cat litter to help with tire traction, a flashlight -- with good batteries -- matches or a lighter, duct tape, a small tool kit and a tow strap.
