(KNZA)--The Hiawatha Police Department has issued an alert regarding another scam being reported locally.
In a Facebook post on the official police account, the agency reports that at least two businesses have been targeted with slight variations of the same attempt to gain money.
In both cases, the businesses are told that the City of Hiawatha will terminate their water service if immediate payment is not made. One business was told to wire money from the Wal-Mart payment center while the other was told to use a credit card.
Regardless of the method, Hiawatha Police say the call is a scam and is in no way connected to the City of Hiawatha.
The best bet, authorities say, is to hang up and provide no personal information to the caller.
