(KNZA)--Sabetha voters will decide the fate of a sales tax proposal in January to fund the construction of a proposed new aquatic center.
Sabetha City Administator Doug Allen says the City Commission voted Monday evening to move forward with a special election January 5th on a half-cent retailers sales tax to fund the construction of the proposed facility.
Allen says the total project cost has been estimated at just over $4 million. He said the city is looking to fund about $3.3 million through the sales tax, with the remainder coming from available city funds.
The proposed new facility would be located at the current pool site.
If approved by voters, the sales tax would take effect April 1st, 2016 and be in effect for 20 years.
