(KLZA)-- The Nemaha County, Nebraska Sheriff's Department is alerting the public that the most current phone scam going around is one claiming to be from the IRS. Please be aware it is a scam.
The ruse begins with a phone call attempting to get your banking information and for you to send money immediately. The caller claims to be from the IRS and states that if you do not send them a specific amount of money, you will be arrested. The caller will have your name and address information and might even tell you to go to your nearest Wal-Mart to send the money.
Please understand if you do owe the IRS money, they will not be making random phone calls to you or leaving a message on your answering machine. The best thing to do in this situation and in every questionable situation on the phone is to just hang up and tell them nothing. Do not give personal inforation to anyone over the phone.
It appears many of these calls are orignating over seas. If you receive a questionable call you should contact your local authorities.
