(KNZA)--More than $23,000 has been designated for the South Brown County Schools.
The funding, earmarked for use in USD 430, comes in the way of a Small, Rural School Achievement Program grant, awarded by the United States Department of Education.
The grant funds were discussed Monday when the USD 430 Board of Education met, with Superintendent Doctor Steve Davies explaining that the monies will be used for the purchase of technology-based items. Davies informed the Board that he has met with the principals of each district school to review their technology needs, with the designated purchases planned to be made soon.
The Board Monday also received an update regarding enrollment for the now underway 2015-2016 school year. Only the slightest of increases, in the way of one student, was noted, but that will likely change, as the number of those attending the South Brown County Schools continuously changes.
Following the official student headcount taken September 21st, the total number of students enrolled in the district is 547. That includes 146 at the Horton High School, 180 at the Everest Middle School, and 248 students enrolled at Horton Elementary.
The Board also accepted the resignation of the high school counselor following a closed door, executive session.
Stepping down is Gary Sorenson, whose resignation was accepted with regrets by the School Board.
