(KMZA)--An engineering study will be conducted of Seneca’s sanitary sewer system to help determine the extent of needed improvements.
The City Council last week voted to enter into a contract with Salina-based Wilson and Company to perform the study at a cost of $7,000.
City Administrator Matt Rehder says the purpose of the study is to take the first step in getting an overview of the condition of the city’s sewer system. He says there has been some sewer backups in the past, which is indicative of the clay tile piping starting to show its age. Rehder says the study will determine the extent of needed improvements and will serve as the first step in applying for a loan through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to fix all the clay tile piping in town.
Rehder says plans are for the study to be done by the first of the year, with a draft report to be presented to the city by February 16th.
