Westar Warns Of Scam Attempts
10/07/2015

(MSC News)--Businesses are the apparent target of scammers making threats while claiming to work for Westar Energy.

According to a press release from Westar, the company has received several reports of businesses receiving calls from the fake employee. The would be victim is told their electric service will be cut off if payment is not made immediately through the use of prepaid cards.

Westar Vice-President of Customer Care Jeff Beasley says it's likely the scammers are using technology to make it appear that the phone call is coming from Westar. He says those who are targeted are told to phone another number where someone answers and also falsely claims to be a company employee.

Beasley is warning anyone who receives such a call to contact Westar before providing the caller with any information, and to notify law enforcement of the attempted scam.
