Renovation of KANZA Building Complete
10/02/2015

(KNZA)--Renovation work has been completed on Kanza Mental Health’s community services building in Hiawatha, which formerly housed the Elks Lodge.

Kanza C-E-O David Elsbury provided an updated to the Brown County Commission Wednesday.

Elsbury said the building sustained $90,000 in water damage in February after a toilet line broke, flooding about half the building.  He said Kanza repaired the damage and then made about $50,000 in improvements to give the building an updated, cleaner look.

Elsbury also told Commissioners that Kanza recently finalized the purchase of the Moser building in Holton, which previously housed the Holton Community Hospital.
The building was purchased from Scott and Susan Foster for $300,000.
He said plans are for the building to serve as the future site of all Kanza services in Jackson County.

Kanza has been occupying a portion of the building since 2012, sharing the space with the Jackson County Department of  Juvenile Intake and Assessment.

About half of the building is unfinished, and Elsbury said Kanza is working on plans to remodel the remainder of the building so it can be utilized.
