(KAIR)--Arson is the suspected cause of an early Thursday morning Atchison County bridge fire.
Sheriff Jack Laurie says it appears as though an unknown person used an accelerant to set fire to the bridge, currently under construction at 244th and River Roads in rural Atchison County. The Walnut Township Fire Department was paged to extinguish the blaze.
The State Fire Marshall's Office was contacted and is assisting in the investigation.
Kansas Department of Transportation officials believe the damage could be over $10,000, pending investigation of the concrete that was exposed to the fire.
Laurie says there is no suspect in the case, but the search for leads continues.
