(Horton, KS)--The Golden Eagle Casino recently donated $5,000 to the Horton Public Library to help fund the addition of a sign outside the historic building that will be used to promote upcoming events and gatherings in around the Horton area.
“The Kickapoo Tribe takes tremendous pride in being able to contribute to worthy institutions like the Horton Library,” said Golden Eagle Casino’s Jarrod Simon. “This is a project that will not only improve the existing facility but will also benefit the community as a whole.”
The Horton Library was founded in the 1920s and has been at its present site since 1939. Library Director Rita Higley has been spearheading the effort to fund the exterior display, including reaching out to local businesses for funding. Golden Eagle Casino joined the City of Horton and Re-Invent Horton in donating $5,000 each.
“We’re extremely fortunate to have groups like the Kickapoo Tribe step up to help improve our facility,” Higley said. “We may be a small community, but we know we can always count on our neighbors.“
The library also received a grant for the project and Higley continues to collect additional funding through a Go Fund Me page. For more information, visit www.hortonlibrary.org.
