Another Possible Scam Hits Locally
09/03/2015

(KNZA)--Another possible scam targeting the elderly is reported in Brown County.

Sheriff John Merchant says the offer being made by the phone caller seems suspect based on the caller's quick hang-up when the potential victim turns the conversation to the dangers of scams. “We had a recent report of an individual that was soon to turn 65 and they were contacted by a person with a thick accent wanting them to take out supplemental insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, whatever the case may be on that,” Merchant tells MSC News. “[The person called] kept asking them [the caller] more questions, and when they got to the part “well you know there's a lot of scams around here” then these folks [the caller] had to go.

Merchant says in this, and all similar instances, the best bet is to hang up on the caller and provide no personal financial information.
