(KAIR)--The Atchison Fire Department has announced that they will be conducting hydrant testing starting on September 1st and running Monday through Thursday from 8am to 4:00pm.
The annual program is done to ensure that fire hydrants throughout the city are in proper working order. The operation may result in brief periods of reduced water pressure, with customers located in low pressure areas being effected the most. Discoloration of water is also possible.
The department is asking residents to run their water until it clears before drinking or doing laundry, and refrain from washing white or light colored clothing during the flushing period. When the work is completed, normal water pressure and clear water should return.
Should you experience a problem during the work period, you can call the city Water Department between 8:00am and 5:00pm at 367-5563.
