(KNZA)--Following a hearing drawing no public comment, the Board of Education of the South Brown County schools Monday evening adopted a 2015-16 budget of nearly $13 million that calls for a 1.5 mill property tax levy decrease.
The budget contains an estimated tax rate of 52.1 mills, which is to generate nearly $1.5 million in tax revenue.
Even though the mill levy will decrease, the district will collect an additional $106,000 in local taxes due to an increase in the district’s assessed valuation.
In other business, Superintendent Dr. Steve Davies provided the Board with an update on summer projects—including the construction of a special needs playground at the Everest Middle School.
Davies says the project started on August 4th. Three pieces of playground equipment have been installed and a fence will be added next week.
Brown County Commissioner and District patron Keith Olsen developed the idea for the playground, which is being funded through donated funds.
