(KAIR)--A man suspected in the theft of tires in Buchanan County, Missouri, led Atchison police on a short vehicle chase late Tuesday night.
Police Chief Mike Wilson says it happened after police were given a description of the pickup truck the suspect was driving into Atchison. “Officers spotted the vehicle in the south-central part of the city in the area of Seventh and Spring. They gave pursuit to the vehicle, the vehicle fled, eventually going south on U.S. 73 at a high rate of speed. The pursuit was terminated, although the vehicle was not located, we do have a suspect identified that will now be charged with that fleeing and eluding.”
Wilson says the the report was actually given by the victim of the theft, who had the tires taken from him Monday night and had seen the suspect vehicle near his property Tuesday night.
Following the chase, police went to a residence in Atchison and were able to recover tires that were taken from an earlier Buchanan County theft.
Wilson says the Buchanan County Sheriff's Department is investing the theft as well.
