(KAIR)--The Atchison County Sheriff's Department is investigating an apparent criminal damage incident involving a power pole in rural Atchison County.
Sheriff Jack Laurie says a representative from Westar Energy reported that their crews were called out for a power outage in the area of U.S. 59 Highway and Johnson road early Sunday morning. Upon arrival, it was discovered that that the pole had broken off and had a tow strap wrapped around the transformer.
Laurie says that is appears as though someone had secured the tow strap to the transformer and attempted to pull it off with a vehicle.
Damage is estimated to be well over, $1,000, but an exact figure is unknown at this time.
