(KAIR)--A home in the Atchison County community of Potter suffered significant damage after a late Tuesday night fire.
Shannon Township Fire Chief Spider Shell says crews were called to the residence, located in the 400 block of Republic Street just before 8:00 to find smoke coming from the upper level.
Shell says the fire was mostly under control by 10:30 and that the home's one occupant managed to escape without injury. The upper level was completely gutted, while the lower level suffered just water damage.
Investigators were able to determine that the fire started in the attic of the home, most likely by an electrical malfunction.
Fire crews from the Mt. Pleasant and Walnut Townships, Easton, and Leavenworth also assisted in fighting the fire, with Atchison County EMS providing additional support
