(KLZA)-- Nemaha County, Nebraska Commissioner Bob Hutton has issued an apology to Board Members, residents of Nemaha County and the public for his use of a racial slur during the April 23rd Board meeting.
Below is the apology e-mailed from the Nemaha County Clerk’s Office.
Dear Board Members, Residents of Nemaha County, and the Public,
On April 22, 2015, while describing a particular device I used as a child and a young teenager, I spoke quickly without thinking about what I was saying, and while trying to describe a slingshot, used a term I had heard it called as a child. Since I haven't used this device since I was very young and in speaking quickly, I referred to it as I had remembered it being called. In doing so, and in hearing my own words, I recognized that my terminology was incorrect and inappropriate. Although it was not my intent, I recognize how this term has offended others. My statement was not directed at anyone, it was what I remembered this device being called as I was growing up. It does not reflect on my views as an adult or the views of my family. I am sorry for the inconsideration and inappropriateness of my statement. I recognize I will not receive everyone's forgiveness and understanding. I ask for your forgiveness and will take appropriatc steps to correct my speech.
Sincerely,
Bob Hutton
