(KLZA)-- Now is the time to begin ordering trees for the spring tree planting program. This year the Nemaha Natural Resources District has seven conifer, eight deciduous, and ten shrub species for sale at a cost of $.90 each plus tax and packaging / handling or planting charges.
If you plan to plant your own trees, March 1, 2015, is the last date to place your order. Orders will be available for pickup next April at either the NRD office at Tecumseh or at the NRCS offices in Syracuse, Auburn, Pawnee City, or Falls City.
Trees to be planted by the NRD must be ordered by December 31; your ground must be fall prepared if it is in sod; and your minimum order is 200 seedlings.
All seedlings must be ordered in multiples of 25/species, and full payment is required at the time of purchase in order to reserve your selection.
Species available this year include:
Conifers: Black Hills Spruce, Colorado Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, Concolor Fir, Eastern Redcedar, Eastern White Pine, Ponderosa Pine
Deciduous: Bitternut Hickory, Black Cherry, Black Walnut, Bur Oak, Chinkapin Oak, Northern Red Oak, Swamp White Oak, Sugar Maple.
Shrubs: American Hazelnut, American Plum, Amur Maple, Black Chokeberry, Chokecherry, Elderberry, Lilac, Redosier Dogwood, Serviceberry, Skunkbush Sumac.
