(KTNC)--Candidates for various elective offices are trying to get their messages to voters in the final two weeks before the election on November 4.
While they may not garner the attention of other candidates, there are several people running for seats on the Nemaha Natural Resources District Board of Directors. There are also a few seats where no candidate is running.
The Nemaha NRD is divided into 20 sub-districts, each represented by two members elected to four-year, staggered, terms. There is also one at-large position elected from anywhere within the NRD area.
This year's election sees 10 of the sub-district directors on the ballot, the at-large position, and two more positions up for two-year terms.
Incumbents who will appear on the general election ballot are: J. Duane Sugden of Sterling, Doug Iske of Dunbar, Daniel Hodges of Julian, Lisa Beethe of Elk Creek, Don Siske of Table Rock, William Niedfeldt of Shubert, and Charles Bausch of Adams.
Present board members Paul Weber, Mike Gilson, Scott Kudrna, and Bruce Walker are not seeking re-election.
The only contested race is the at-large position where the incumbent, Bausch, is running against Russel Moss of Burr.
New candidates Timothy Loseke of Hickman and Daniel Stukenholtz of Brock are running unopposed in sub-districts one and seven. No one has filed to run for four-year terms in sub-districts four, five, and 10, so those vacancies will be filled by appointment sometime after January 1 and will then be on the ballot in two more years.
Two-year terms on the ballot are in sub-district four, where Daniel Hodges is the only candidate and in sub-district 10, where no one has filed.
The recent death of director John Albrecht of Nebraska City left an opening in sub-district 4. Albrecht had filed to run for another term, but his name has been removed from the ballot.
More information about the sub-district boundaries is available by contacting the Nemaha NRD office in Tecumseh at 402-335-3325, or by visiting the NRD's website, www.nemahanrd.org.
