(KTNC)--The Nemaha NRD Board of Directors will consider placing a moratorium on well construction in northeast Richardson County.
That action follows concerns of residents in the Barada area regarding water levels. Several homeowners in the area say the water level in their wells has fallen recently. NRD staff has met with landowners and is working with them to measure some wells and register others.
Last month, NRD Board member Jon Keithley of Falls City said one resident approached him requesting a moratorium be placed on well construction until they can determine why the water level is dropping.
The board will consider the moratorium during its regular meeting Thursday night.
Other business includes action on a motion that was tabled last month regarding a well application, submitted by Harlan Plager in Pawnee County, that had been previously denied.
The board will also review bids on the repair of several structures, will consider revisions to a Duck Creek land rights settlement, and will get an update on an agreement with Nemaha County to help fund the upgrade of a road impacted by the Duck Creek project.
The NRD Board meets at 8:00 p.m. Thursday in Tecumseh.
