(KNZA)--Three area Indian tribes are being awarded more than $1.3 million in public safety grants from the U.S. Dept. of Justice.
U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom announced the grants Tuesday through the Justice Department’s Coordinated Tribal Assistance program.
The Kickapoo Tribe will receive nearly $450,000; Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation just over $365,000; and Sac and Fox Nation just over $547,000.
Nationally, the Justice Department has announced 169 grants in FY 2014 to American Indian tribes totaling more than $87 million to enhance law enforcement practices and sustain crime prevention and intervention efforts.
