(KTNC)-- Holt County Commissioners are again discussing forming an Enhanced Enterprise Zone. Commissioners met recently with Jackie Spainhower, the Director of the Northwest Regional Council of Governments, about forming an Enhanced Enterprise Zone for agricultural-related business development.
The EEZ would offer a 50-percent real estate tax abatement for 10-years for new businesses that meet certain criteria to develop in the county. County Clerk Kathy Kunkel says they’re looking to attract businesses that enhance the agricultural community.
The process to create the Enhanced Enterprise Zone is in its initial stages. Kunkel says most of the county would be eligible to be in the enterprise zone, except an area around the city of Oregon.
Holt County Commissioners first began discussing forming an EEZ last August. Kunkel says the discussion got sidetracked a bit when the wind farm developer Element Power asked to be included in an enterprise zone, but asked for more of a discount than commissioners were willing to provide.
