(KTNC) -- Monday is the deadline to sign up for Affordable Health Care through healthcare.gov, and health insurance providers expect to be extremely busy as people rush to meet the deadline.
Andy Williams, the Director of Consumer Marketing with Blue Cross and Blue Shield Nebraska, says as long as your name is in the system you will be ok.
He says anyone who has started working with a broker or agent on a policy before midnight can complete the application if something prevents them from completing the process on Monday.
Anyone who doesn't start an application by the end of the day Monday and who doesn't have healthcare coverage, won't be able to sign up through healthcare.gov except due to what are being called "special enrollment life events."
Williams says those events include a move to a different state, birth or adoption of a child, loss of job or a marriage or divorce.
Those who miss the deadline won't be able to get the ACA plans, though Williams says many insurance providers might have temporary policies to help bridge the gap until the next open enrollment period, which is November 15 through February 15.
Those who miss the deadline will also have to pay a penalty for not signing up. Williams says about 12-percent of Nebraskans are uninsured or about 200,000 individuals. He says about 12% of those, or about 26,000 have signed up for coverage.
He says many of the glitches have been worked out regarding the sign up process and from start to finish it should take less than an hour.
