(KTNC) -- Authorities are advising people in northwest Missouri to stay home in the wake of the latest blast of winter weather.
The Missouri Department of Transportation has issued a “no travel advisory” through Sunday, due to expected hazardous road conditions. A winter storm warning is in effect until 6:00 a.m. Monday.
Forecasts called for up to 10-inches of snow in the Kansas City area, with freezing rain, sleet, snow, and bitterly cold temperatures along with wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour.
MoDOT state maintenance engineer Elizabeth Wright says people should avoid travel unless it’s a dire emergency. She says it’s easier for crews to clear roadways when there are no other vehicles on the highways.
If you do attempt to travel, you should bring a mobile phone and winter survival kit. If you become stranded, stay with your vehicle and call 9-1-1.
Information about Missouri road conditions is available by using MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org.
