Richardson County Board Awards Bid to Replace Bridge
(KTNC) - The Richardson County Commission has accepted a bid to replace a bridge northwest of Humboldt that collapsed last year.
After reviewing bids from six companies Tuesday, the commission awarded the bid to Herbst Construction, of LeMars, Iowa, for $470,158.
Noah Dively of Hiawatha was driving a tractor, pulling an anhydrous applicator and two full anhydrous tanks across the bridge on 715 Road last April when it collapsed.
Authorities say Dively was attempting to pull the equipment, which weighed between 20 and 25 tons, across the bridge that was rated at three tons. Ag Partners Coop owned the equipment and the company's insurance carrier will cover the cost to replace the bridge.
In other business, commissioners awarded bids to purchase a motor grader and tires for the county road department. They accepted a bid from Nebraska Machinery Company to purchase a 2013 Caterpiller motor grader for $217,460.
The tire bid went to three different companies – Harmon’s OK Tire of Falls City in the amount of $9,177, Cross Dillon Tire of Lincoln for $670, and Koch’s Auto of Dawson in the amount of $16,572.
And Commissioners authorized the Veterans’ Service Committee to pursue a grant to purchase a van to transport veterans to medical appointments at V-A Hospitals.
