(KTNC) - The Johnson-Brock Board of Education held its regular October meeting Tuesday evening.
In the only action item, the board approved a revised policy pertaining to student bullying.
The board met with the architect and construction manager for the district’s building project. Superintendent Jeff Koehler says they reviewed bid proposals as they prepare to send out the bid packages and begin construction.
Koehler says they’ll meet again next Wednesday. They hope to start construction at the end of October.
Industrial technology instructor Landonn Mackey gave the board a report on a new energy academy class at Johnson-Brock. Koehler says the class is being conducted through ESU 4 and Southeast Community College.
Music teacher Dana Overfield gave the board information on her classes. Several Johnson-Brock students have qualified for state music competitions.
In his report, Koehler gave the board more information on a bus scanner. The scanners would track students as they got on and off the school bus. Koehler says it’s a neat system, but a bit pricey at 20-thousand dollars to install on six school buses and 13-thousand annually to maintain the software.
Koehler says the district will again apply for a $24,000 grant through the Department of Environmental Quality that would help defray the cost of purchasing a new school bus. Koehler says the program is similar to the "cash for clunkers" program of a few years ago. Johnson-Brock applied for the grant last year, but it was not successful.
