Holt County Commissioners Look to Reduce Workplace Injuries
09/12/2013

(KTNC) - Holt County officials are looking at ways to reduce workplace injuries.  Commissioners met recently with Russ Vanness, with the company that underwrites the Missouri Rural Services Workers’ Compensation Trust.
The trust is a non-profit organization that covers workers’ compensation claims for several hundred rural governmental agencies in Missouri.
Holt County has been a member for 20 years.  In that time the county has paid in more than $612,000 in premiums, with $318,000 in claims, which County Clerk Kathy Kunkel says is significant.  (play audio)
Vanness talked with commissioners about ways they county could reduce worker injuries, particularly in the Road and Bridge Department and the Sheriff’s Department.  Holt County has filed 37 claims over the 20 years they’ve been part of the trust, with significant losses in seven of the 20 years.
Holt County Commissioners have also approved a quote from Pinnacle Electric for work at the Courthouse Annex Building.  They will install a shut off switch that meets commercial building codes, to disconnect power in preparation for the installation of a backup generator.  Pinnacle’s bid was $5,075.
