(KTNC) - Work is nearly completed on the new bridge over the Missouri River at Rulo, but weather has caused the bridge’s opening to be pushed back a few weeks.
Construction Manager Mike Habegger with the Nebraska Department of Roads says they lost a few days of work due to the wet weather this spring, and some minor flooding set them back a few more days. (play audio)
Despite the weather, Habegger they are making progress and nearing completion. He says crews poured the final section of concrete last Thursday and a crew is installing the bridge railing. He says they also are paving a section on the Missouri side of the bridge.
It will take a week for the final deck pour to settle. After that, Habegger says they’ll have to repair a section on the bridge where one of the forms failed. (play audio)
They had hoped to have the new bridge open sometime in July, but with the weather delays, Habegger says they’re now looking at opening the bridge sometime in August.
