(KAIR) -- A rural Atchison woman gets probation and community service for an animal cruelty case in which a horse was found dead.
Lynn Westmoreland was sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to do 25 hours of community service Monday in Atchison County District Court.
She was cited in February for not taking proper care of horses on property she was renting in rural Atchison.
The Atchison County Sheriff’s Office intervened in February after a neighbor found one of the horses dead in their pool after authorities believe it got loose seeking water and fell through the tarp while drinking water that accumulated on the tarp.
Authorities say the surviving horses were malnourished and without the proper amount of food.
As a condition of her probation, Westmoreland must not possess or reside at any premises where animals are present.
