( KNZA)-Bond has been set at one million dollars for a woman accused of playing a role in the death of a 4-year-old Brown County boy.
28-year-old Janice Summerford of Goodman, Missouri made her first appearance in a Brown County courtroom Wednesday on charges of aiding and abetting murder in the second degree, aiding and abetting felony child abuse and obstructing apprehension or prosecution.
Atchison attorney Rex Lane was appointed to represent Summerford and a preliminary hearing was set for May 8th.
Summerford was arrested Tuesday following an investigation by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.
County Attorney Kevin Hill says Summerford was the live-in girlfriend of Lee Davis IV of Hiawatha, charged in the March beating death his son.
Hill says the investigation revealed Summerford was present at the time of the beating.
Davis pleaded no contest this week to an amended charge of second-degree murder and felony abuse of a child.  He’s to be sentenced May 31st.
